Chemicals and Fertilizers. The majority of the operating gasification plants worldwide produce chemicals and fertilizers. And, as natural gas and oil prices continue to increase, the chemical industry is developing additional coal gasification plants to generate these basic chemical building blocks.
The thermal decomposition of coal by slow heating rate is generally used to investigate carbonization of bituminous coal for coke making. It means that the thermal decomposition of coal under nonoxidizing conditions produces a residue (coke), which consists of carbon and mineral matter. During this process the coal passes through several stages.
The feed can even include the petcoke (petroleum coke) or sometimes biomass. As shown in the process flow diagram, the coal is first slurried with water and fed to the first stage of the gasifier. Oxygen with a purity of 95% is provided from the Air Separation Unit (ASU) and the coal is partially combusted to maintain a temperature of 1370 °C.

Coke is produced in a coke battery, which is composed of many coke ovens stacked in rows into which coal is loaded. The coking process takes place over long periods of time between 1236 hours in .
Underground coal gasification Wikipedia. Underground coal gasification (UCG) is an industrial process which converts coal into product gas. UCG is an insitu gasification process carried out in .
In this process, the air and steam flow required for gasification is sufficient to fluidize the bed of coal, char and ash. Fluidization occurs when the gasflow velocity lifts the particles and causes the gas–solid mixture to flow like a fluid (Shadle. et al., 2002; Crelling et al., 2005).
Feb 22, 2017· COAL GASIFICATION UNDERGROUND COAL GASIFICATION (UCG) PROCESS • Under the process of UCG, gasification of coal happens insitu by controlled burning. • About 350 m3 gas can be produced per tonne of coal.
COAL GASIFICATION Coal gasification is the process of reacting coal with oxygen, steam, and carbon dioxide to form a product gas containing hydrogen and carbon monoxide. Gasification is essentially incomplete combustion. [3] Fig. 1. Fluidized Bed Reactor [3] Gasification refers to a group of processes which highlight the
gasification processes over a wide range of temperatures, using air and steam as gasification agents. The process diagram of the plant is shown in Figure 1. Figure 1. Test rig for coal biomass cogasification The temperature and pressure distributions were measured throughout the system
